Today is the 6th anniversary of Hunter S Thompson’s death. So I have uploaded some Gonzo inspired images taken from a 7 Days fashion shoot.

Some photos taken from the Royal University of Phnom Penh for the Love issue of Lift Magazine which is a supplement that is targeted towards university students in Cambodia.

Cambodia’s oldest and longest university, the Royal University of Phnom Penh is a photographers dream to shoot. All of the buildings were constructed in the style of New Khmer Architecture which was an architectural movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s spearheaded by Vann Molyvann.

Check out Ka Tours for examples of New Khmer Architecture and if you are in town, book one of their tours or download a walking tour of central Phnom Penh.

The cover is above but I put a couple good ones below for your perusal.

Canon EOS Experience at Raffles

13 12 2009

Sorry this is a bit late but I haven’t been able to upload photos onto my blog ever since I got my new laptop.
So am on Safari for the first time in years to post this.

I had a chance to play with the new Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro IS L lens at the Canon EOS Experience Seminar at Raffles on Wednesday and Thursday.
Its an impressive lens which deserves the red ring that signifies it as an “Luxury” class lens. I wanted to see if the lens would be good as a portrait lens along with being a top notch Macro lens. The only drawback I experienced on the lens was the very loose focus ring which caused me to lose focus several times while in Manual Focus. It may easily be photographer error because of the very small depth of field f/2.8 allows at 100mm. So I guess I should say that I need to use the Auto Focus if I decide to get this lens!
There was an opportunity on Thursday morning with some models being brought out for the shooters. Here is a shot that really shows the sharpness of the lens.

I still don’t really understand why they did this as I was the only one of the participants that actually got to use one of the products that they were flogging. When actually thinking about it, I liken the experience of the seminar like going to Guitar World in Hollywood.
Anyhoo, another photo of the event.

High heeled shenanigans

16 08 2009

One of the great features of the Ricoh GX200 is the intervalometer which allows me to shoot photos in timed intervals. Its great if you want to show some great time lapse footage. I might put them up later but for the time being, you will have to be satisfied with Jessica acting aggressive.

August 13 2009 – Plagarism on the riverside

15 08 2009

I took a share taxi ($10 for the front seat) from Kompong Thom to Phnom Penh and had a shock upon entering the city.
For a little background, I took some photos for the inaugural issue of 7 Days, which is a weekly lifestyle magazine put out by the Phnom Penh Post. One of the photos, which is has Sapor Model Nai holding a Cosmopolitan ran as the cover.
So imagine my shock when I discovered that the same picture was plastered on a banner on the riverside advertising cheap cocktails at a restaurant. The problem is that copyright laws in this country are non-existent and it looks like there is no legal recourse I can take about this. Will have to think about it.
Anyhoo, the offending banner:
